"28 Ulster Project International kids from Ireland and America joined together for another Time of Discovery(TOD) in our Sanctuary on Friday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The theme of this TOD was "CoExistence," and the young people joined with Fr. Allen and Rev. Jim Brunt (a Brethren Church pastor) to consider the ways we do CoExist together in Christ with others throughout the world. Using art posters from the global Coexistence project stationed around the room for mediation, they sang songs of faith, shared bible readings from Micah 6:8 (Do Justice, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly with God) and Matthew 22:37-39 (Love God and Neighbor), looked at the culture around us through newspaper clippings, made posters and skits, and prayed for God's guidence in living together and peace-making. The next TOD this coming week will be about things that break down Coexistence. The last TOD is about ways to rebuild that community in Christ. Ulster has been in Tucson and other U.S. cities from many years and brings together kids from Omagh, Ireland (where a devestating IRA bombing took place in the 1998 with 29 people killed and 220 injured) to live in community with American Protestant and Catholic familys for a month. Tami and Steve West are key contacts for the program. Several East-side churches sponsor the Ulster Project." |
